Hourly proposal for Dissertation Editor

Five hours stops the leaks. Ten brings your lost posts back.

Four blocks at $75 an hour. Each block includes everything in the one before it, so you can start small and add hours when you're ready.

For Dr. Allen Roda and Ian Bailey. By Tori Mukami for the VS3 Nick Gray Team.

Five things from your side, none of them billed

These let every paid hour go to the work.

  • A WordPress login for our teamWith rights to edit pages and posts.
    How to set it up
    1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard (your site address followed by /wp-admin).
    2. In the left menu, go to Users, then Add New User.
    3. Username: vs3team. Email: ash@nickgray.net. First and last name are optional.
    4. Leave the password as generated and keep "Send the new user an email about their account" ticked. We set our own password from that email.
    5. Set the role to Editor, then click Add New User.

That's it. You can remove the account or change its role at any time under Users.

  • A firewall that won't lock us outYour security plugin blocked us twice on 24 September after a few missing pages. It needs a higher limit, or an exception for us, while we forward old addresses.
    How to set it up
    1. Create our login first (the step above), using ash@nickgray.net, so the plugin can tell our visits apart from strangers'.
    2. Open your security plugin's settings. If it's Wordfence: Wordfence › Firewall › All Firewall Options › Rate Limiting.
    3. Find the limit on missing pages ("If a human's pages not found (404s) exceed") and raise it to 240 per minute, or set it to Unlimited while we work.
    4. If you'd rather keep the limit, add the IP address we send you to the allowlist instead (in Wordfence: Allowlisted IP addresses that bypass all rules, on the same page).
    5. If the plugin has an option to exclude logged-in editors or specific users from blocking, add the ash@nickgray.net account there too.
    6. Click Save Changes. We'll tell you when the forwarding is done so you can put the limit back.
  • Your old posts and the bookThe Google Doc with the 2014 to 2020 posts, and a copy of the book you wrote with Lauren.
  • A reminder about the ethics draftIan offered on the call to unpublish the unused ethics draft. It's still live in WordPress with nothing linking to it.
  • The facts only you can confirmThe bio details listed in the audit, and both coaching prices. You told us statistics coaching costs more than editing coaching, so the FAQ will say so.
5 hours$375

Stop losing the searches you already get

  • Give the homepage and the editing page their own titles, descriptions and headings, so they stop competing for "dissertation editing services". The coaching and statistics pages get the same treatment.2 h
  • Forward the old /pricing/, /editing/ and /about-us/ addresses to their new pages, and remove the dead sitemap address still registered with Google.0.75 h
  • Fix the broken links, hide the thank-you and payment pages from Google, remove the tracking lines from robots.txt (the file that tells Google what to read), and fix the garbled characters.0.75 h
  • Add a help button to the top of the Word clean-copy post and the APA post, each pointing to the service it matches. The clean-copy post brought 191 visitors from Google in the last three months.0.75 h
  • Make the FAQ show the same phone number as your header and footer without breaking your call tracking, and list the two coaching prices separately.0.25 h
  • Record where each page stands before we change it, and send you a one-page summary of what changed when the block ends.0.5 h
No posts in this block. Five hours goes to the fixes.5 h
10 hours$750

Put your lead editor's name on your posts, plan what comes next, and publish the first five

Everything in the 5-hour block, plus:

  • One author page and one author box for the editor who writes your first posts: photo, degrees, title, a short bio and LinkedIn. The five new posts carry that byline instead of "administrator".1 h
  • A content marketing strategy built on the keywords you already rank for, plus new keywords that can bring you targeted traffic around dissertation editing and each service you offer. It sets which old posts come back first and which new ones to write.1.5 h
  • Publish five posts. Every one is optimized with material from the book. Some are old posts restored, and some are new posts from the content strategy. What each one gets is listed below.2.5 h
Adds 5 hours to the first block.10 h
20 hours$1,500

Show buyers the price, the proof and the credentials where they decide

Everything in the 10-hour block, plus:

  • Rebuild the team page so every bio and credential sits on the page itself instead of in pop-ups Google can't read.1.5 h
  • An author page and author box for every other team member, linked from their bylines and the team page. Every existing post moves off the "administrator" account to the editor who wrote it.2 h
  • Work out what the people landing on each of your four core service pages came looking for, and what they need to see before they get in touch. Then put it next to the button: the price, the turnaround, the free sample edit, and a clear note that you edit and never write for them. The rates page gets the price and turnaround the same way.1 h
  • Write "Is it cheating to hire a dissertation editor?" and link it from your Academic Integrity page and the FAQ.1 h
  • Restore nine more old posts, refreshed with the book. With the ethics post, that brings you to 15 posts live.4.5 h
Adds 10 hours to the second block.20 h
40 hours$3,000

Rebuild your library from the old posts and the book

Everything in the 20-hour block, plus:

  • Restore 30 more old posts, refreshed with the book. That brings you to 45 posts live.15 h
  • Mobile speed. Our speed specialist works through the marketing tags with whoever runs your ads, and we load the reviews widget only when a reader scrolls to it.1.5 h
  • Show each service page the testimonials that match it, fix the video labels, and add the transcripts we've already made.0.25 h
  • Retitle the editing page's committee section, and rewrite the statistics and formatting promises.0.25 h
  • Rebuild the Word and APA posts around one offer each, and count the button clicks in Tag Manager.0.5 h
  • Write real titles and descriptions for your other posts, /testimonials/ and /universities/, and merge or archive the thin announcement posts.1 h
  • Make the faculty, journal-editor and book page changes once you've decided those offers.0.5 h
  • A report on which changes moved which searches, from your Search Console.1 h
Adds 20 hours to the third block.40 h

What every post gets

You said you're ready to put the whole book online. Every post we restore or write draws on it, so it carries material no other site has.

315

blog posts your old site listed for Google.

27 posts exist today.

  • Headings written as the questions people search, each answered in its first paragraph. ChatGPT and Gemini pull answers the same way.
  • Case studies and numbers from the book, quoted where they help.
  • An image.
  • A help button pointing to the service the post is about.
  • Links to and from related posts.
  • The author box of the editor who owns that subject.
  • For restored posts, the old address forwarded to the new one, so links other sites still point at it count again.

How the hours work

We log time against each line

If a line takes less time, the spare hours go to the next post on the list. If a line would run over, we ask before going past the block.

Blocks stack

Start with 5 or 10 and add hours later. You mentioned coming back in three or four months. The content plan keeps the next posts queued, including the Word questions on track changes and comments.

You see it before it goes live

Service page copy, bios and every post come to you before they go live.

Monthly works too

If you'd rather have a set number of hours each month, we can agree on that instead.

Covered by your audit fee: the full audit, the screenshot of the lockout page, and the content plan from the call.
